Nevada City is a small Gold Rush town in Northern California. With a population of just around 3,000 people, the town has a buzzing music scene. Avant-folk musician Joanna Newsom is one break-out star, and fellow folk musician Alela Diane Menig is on the rise. Menig still calls Nevada City home. She grew up there with her bluegrass-trained parents, so music runs in the family. Menig credits her mom for her strong singing voice and her dad for her guitar playing skills, and it's her father who often appears on stage to play with her. Weekend America's Suzie Lechtenberg traveled to Nevada City to meet with Alela Diane and her dad, and to talk about music and home.

Your story (Suzie Lechtenberg) caught me off guard and left me in a puddle. (Move over field of dreams) What a sweet story. I am a divorced father of three lovely children myself..and musician at heart. Bravo!
