More From John Moe
On 10-4, we take a look at the all but forgotten home of the phrase "10-4": The CB radio. Before the internet, cell phones, texting and IM, it was a way to chat with strangers and strange truckers, to invent new names, to use coded slang, to do all the things we do on computers today. Weekend America host John Moe remembers the CB boom of the 1970s and wonders why we're so hooked on blathering to strangers.

I was so happy to hear this... I try to explain to people that are either just a little older than me, or just a little younger, and they have no idea about the CB culture that swept the nation! The analogy to current social networking trends is great!

Now that we've got the CB thing out of the way, there's one more thing, from the same era, that makes people think I'm crazy when I try to describe it to them... does ANYONE remember back in the 70's, on shows like "Real People", there were frequent segments where there was a bunch of karate students, a piano,. and a wall with a hole in it (of a certain diameter), and the kids would kick the piano to smithereens small enough to pass through the hole? They'd be compting for the record of getting a piano through a hole of x diameter in y minutes. Does ANYONE remember this, or am I really crazy?

Nice picture. I actually own this record! You can learn a lot without ever leaving your kitchen.
