JANUARY 20, 2007 Listen to this Story
Bill Radke delves into the listener mailbag and learns that good fences don't necessarily make good neighbors. But first, we hear another State of the Union address from a prominent American.
Letters from our Listeners
When will somebody ever READ the poem. It did not advocate FOR fences, it advocated AGAINST fences. "Something there is that doesn't like a fence".
I can understand someone who is uneducated quoting it without knowing the meaning, but I am very disappointed that somebody on your show does not know the true meaning of the poem.
Dean G. Huffman - Cape Girardeau, Missouri.

This afternoon was the annual MLK Day celebration put on by our local MLK Commission. I was asked to describe our Day On project and found myself telling about my going into VISTA because of his assassination and the reaction of those I found myself around, and then to law school I think I was a little more succinct that I'd been on the radio! I encouraged people to join us and to think of other projects. Afterward seven people gave me their e-mail addresses and asked to be included next year! One of the folks who has been cleaning all five years really wants to paint a mural next year - with our climate it will be indoors - so we are going to contact agencies that might be interested in having that done. I'll put more time into preparation and planning/coordinating for next year in hopes we can expand our efforts - and the great feelings that come with a day of community service! I'm very glad I told you my story and you liked it - onward and upward!

She referred to bears "go[ing] to the bathroom." Though arguably a piece of folk wisdom, I have indeed been witness to what Dr. Hechtel would call a fact, that bears s*** in the woods. Not when hibernating, but never surrounded by porcelain. Even Yogi. Jonathan Green - Los Angeles, Calif.
