Weekend America Story Competition Submission Agreement

Thank you for submitting your story for consideration in Weekend America's Fall 2005 Story Competition. You will retain ownership of your Story. However, you are granting to American Public Media the non-exclusive right to broadcast your Story and to present your Story in perpetuity on any platform for distribution in all media now known or hereafter developed, including digital archives that are accessible by end users. You understand that submitting a Story does not guarantee that your work will be used, displayed or otherwise reproduced.

By clicking the I ACCEPT button on the submission page, you affirm that this Story is original to you, that you own all necessary rights to this work, and that the Story does not defame or otherwise violate the rights, copyrights, trademarks, privacy or reputation of any third party. Unless the Story is clearly labeled as a parody, information in it will be truthful, objective to the best of your knowledge and ability and capable of being confirmed by fact-checking, and logical in its presentation of information. You will not intentionally do anything deceptive, dishonest, or damaging to the good name of American Public Media in your efforts to create the Story. You warrant that all parts of the Story you submit will not violate, misappropriate, or infringe on any rights or laws of any person, or entity, including rights regarding copyrights, contractual rights, or trademarks.

You agree to indemnify and hold American Public Media harmless against any claims asserted by any third parties that allege the story violates their rights, or from any breach by you of your promises in this agreement.

If your Story is accepted, you shall in a timely manner, make yourself available for editing, recording (if your voice is to be used in the piece) and broadcast, which American Public Media or its assignee shall record. You will be compensated in the amount of $500.00 if your story is chosen as a one of three winners in the competition and an additional $500.00 if it is chosen for broadcast. The payment will be sent to you within 30 days after the date your Story is chosen and/or recorded by American Public Media., and this shall constitute your sole and complete compensation for all rights granted hereunder.

You affirm that you are at least 18 years of age and possess the legal right and ability to enter into this agreement, or that you are the parent or legal guardian of the minor who is submitting the essay.

In addition, you affirm that you have not previously had a story broadcast on national radio or published in national media.
