If it's not too cold in there, some of you may be listening to this show in your garage. Ben Jackel in Los Angeles does, and he heard me asking for garage stories a while back. We're calling this series Garageland - about that space where a little free time and a little extra room can allow our visions, hobbies, or dreams to flourish. For Ben Jackel, the garage is home to a very precise, intense form of art.

Ben Jackel re-inspired me, especially when he said "All my stuff takes a long time". When I am in my Garage/Shop, time becomes less important and something like magic becomes stronger. Thanks again for the re-inspiration.

I loved your segment on Ben Jackel's garage and his art. I'm impressed by anyone who's both polite enough to build cabinetry around his vacuum to keep the noise down for the neighbors, and provocative enough to push strangers to think about the relationship between beauty and death. I hope he takes a crack at sculpting the Shield of Achilles someday.

Today's Garageland story of Ben Jackel's use of his garage made me think twice about what's stored in mine. This winter I have to move everything (bookshelves, files, luggage, for the termite inspection. I'll see what I've forgotten during this daunting task. I love how Weekend America says "even modest garages can be a place for the other side of our lives, the part that doesn't quite fit in the house! Thanks for this series.
