I know weekend America tends to be more of an upbeat show so i hate to pessimistic but in regard to James Galvin's poem about Flooding....flooding is not a natural disaster but rather a human disaster. Humans are supposed to be the most intelligent creatures on the planet....no? So why do they continue to live in floodplains and negligently attempt to control nature with levees that continually fail. Flooding is a natural process of the landscape so why fight it? Better to accept it. It has many very beneficial attributes, and is ultimately responsible for the original fertility of the agricultural land in "floodplains" of the Midwest. Flooding would be a trivial but positive event if humans chose to manage their activities in floodplains more wisely. Its simply a cost of dong business in such areas. You don't get something for nothing.
I am an environmental scientist so it just irks me to here stories like that. Love the show. Keep on keeping on.
Dave Kunz.
