Terror Behind the Walls
Eastern State Penitentiary's hub and spoke design was the model for over 300 prisons worldwide. This engraving by Samuel Couperthwaite, convict number 2954, shows architect John Haviland's seven original cellblocks spreading like the spokes of a wheel.
