A blow up of a "Poor Lil' Mose" cartoon, from 1901. The strip was written by the same artist who did "Lil Abner." In this cartoon, Mose visits Coney Island with his pet monkey, bear, and lobster, plus a bottle of wine. Romana says it was typical for this sort of art to put black figures among animals, suggesting a near-animal character.
