In the late 1970s Charnita Monday and Helen Hatcher were forced out of Hamtramck, Michigan when the city redlined its African American neighborhoods. The action forced the sisters to live apart. But after the settlement of a discrimination lawsuit, the city built new, subsidized homes for the victims. Now the sisters are reunited in Hamtramck. They live side-by-side in these houses. Charnita's house is green, Helen's is blue.
