  • The 9/11 Chapel

    People travel to St. Paul's Chapel in New York City for different reasons. Some may come to see the historic architecture or the pew where George Washington worshipped on his inauguration day. But most will tell you they are going because of 9/11. The church was the site of impromptu memorials immediately after 9/11 and still houses memorials, exhibits and an extensive audio-visual history of the event. Weekend America spoke with visitors to St. Paul's chapel on a recent Sunday afternoon.

  • One Dog, Two Owners?

    When Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans, Kara Keyes and her husband were forced to evacuate. They left everything, including their pit bull Crown. While temporarily in Houston, they feared the worst for their house, their friends and their pet. When they were able to return home, they eventually discovered that Crown was not dead, but had been rescued. Pia Salk, a clinical psychologist from Santa Monica, traveled to New Orleans immediately after the storm to help stranded animals. She found an emaciated pit bull, named her Sweetie and eventually took her in. Now, two years later, Keyes and Salk are in a custody battle over the pit bull. We'll talk to both of them about their love for this dog.

Best of all he's not afraid to show you he's human and things don't always work out. Weekend America Host Bill Radke talks to Pettis about the weekend projects anybody can do.

    Football season starts this weekend, and while many people are keeping tabs on the quarterback and running back, the long snapper may get overlooked. Weekend America reporter John Moe has the story of an athlete who is often overlooked and really doesn't have to do much on the team.

    American soldiers have been getting tattoos since the nineteenth century, but as the war in Iraq continues, the types of tattoos evolve. Reporter Michael May visited some tattoo parlors in Killeen, Texas, home of Fort Hood Army Base, to find out more about the permanent mementos that soldiers carry.

    Weekend America has been following Erin McKittrick and her husband Bretwood "Hig" Higman's walk from Seattle, Wash. to Unimak Island, Alaska. It's a 4,000 mile trek and will take about nine months. As of this weekend, they have traveled more than 1,000 miles and are back on American soil. We'll check in to see how the couple is holding up.

  • Observing the Nature Watchers

    British filmmaker David Attenborough hosts a series of nature documentaries. It's a cult phenomenon on the BBC. This weekend, the Animal Planet channel will be airing his documentary "Blue Planet. "Weekend America" reporter Sean Cole wondered what it might sound like if he did a nature documentary about humans. Last February, Weekend America producer Angela Kim moved away from the land of eternal sunshine and palm trees to the land of 10,000 lakes. Kim shares her story about finding the one thing that helps her cope with her homesickness.
